Verdite Statue 'Serenity'

Artist Richard Mupumha uses semi-precious Verdite in creating this sculpture which exudes an aura of calm composure against the background of his native Africa. A continent of contrasts, of both unbridled aggression and deep quietening peace. In doing so, this sculpture also depicts the duality of love in relationships as well as the broader theme of indivisible turbulence and serenity in the nature of Africa.

Richard Mupumha was born in 1963 in Zimbabwe and dedicated himself to full time sculpturing in 1993. His work is inspired by his relationship with his ancestors who he feels communicate with him through shaping his sculptures. Richard has successfully exhibited his work in the USA, Germany, Netherlands and South Africa.
