The artist used Serpentine stone to exhibit the theme of Family often found in Shona art. The abundance of orange colour found in this normally green stone makes it a rare piece. The green and gold patterns and colours of the stone make the work unique, no one sculpture is the same as another. The sculpture captures the essence of the special bond between mother and child and the importance of family in the Shona culture.
